Research interests:

  • Male reproductive biology, metabolic modulation, obesity and physio-pathological causes of subfertility or infertility.

  • Main focus on metabolic cooperation in spermatogenesis, metabolic-related infertility, particularly due to diabetes and obesity, and the mechanisms responsible for such phenomena.

  • Discovery of relevant mechanisms by which hyperglycemia, particularly diabetes, impairs male reproductive function;

  • Contribution to the discussion on how obesity and energy balance are associated with a successful spermatogenesis;

  • Unravelling of the emerging role for mammalian target of rapamycin and other signaling pathways in male fertility;

  • Identification of metabolic molecular mechanisms associated with the hormonal regulation of spermatogenesis.
